Volunteer Opportunities
Why Volunteer?
Becoming a League member and an active volunteer is a meaningful way to meet new friends, learn about our various levels of government, and contribute your skills. We can all feel a desire to "do something" to help solve the problems we see in the world. In the League, we take action to influence public policy and to educate and engage voters. Are you interested in joining our efforts? We'd love to have you.
Help Register Voters Across San Mateo County!
Are you ready to make a direct impact on democracy in our community? Join our dedicated team of volunteers who have been ensuring voter registration forms are visible and accessible in San Mateo County for nearly 30 years. This team visits libraries, community centers, schools, and city halls across the county, distributing voter registration forms in multiple languages. This critical work helps empower every eligible voter to participate in our democracy.
Several North County volunteers are ready to “retire” after years of service, and we need fresh faces to continue this vital work. You can be part of this impactful legacy!
What You’ll Do:
Visit 3-4 community sites in North County (Daly City, Millbrae, Brisbane, South San Francisco, Colma, Pacifica, or San Bruno) once a quarter.
Replenish voter registration forms and ensure their visibility.
Track form distribution and share updates with the team to inform county reports.
Why Join?
This opportunity allows you to:
Strengthen access to democracy by making voter registration easier for all.
Be part of a long-standing League tradition that generates critical revenue for our work.
Build connections with fellow passionate volunteers who care about civic engagement.
Contribute to meaningful change while dedicating just a few hours each quarter.

Advocate for Fair Redistricting in San Mateo County!
Are you passionate about ensuring fair representation in local government? Join our dynamic team advocating for the creation of an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) in San Mateo County. This critical work aims to take the power of drawing district lines out of the hands of elected officials and put it into an independent, citizen-run commission—ensuring fairness, equity, and representation for all.
Why It Matters
Our goal is for San Mateo County to adopt an independent redistricting commission (IRC) to establish County district boundaries for future elections. When politicians draw district lines, they can manipulate boundaries to serve their interests instead of the community’s. This process, known as gerrymandering, undermines democracy and diminishes the voices of underrepresented communities. By advocating for an IRC, you’ll help make sure district maps reflect the demographics and needs of our county’s diverse population.
What You’ll Do
• Learn about redistricting and the impact of district boundaries on representation.
• Work with others to build support for this initiative across the county.
Why Join?
This is a meaningful opportunity to:
• Be part of a statewide and national effort to eliminate gerrymandering.
• Collaborate with passionate advocates for democracy.
• Learn as you go—no prior expertise is needed!
Ready to make a difference? Email us at info@lwvncsmc.org to join the movement for fair maps and equal representation. Together, we can ensure a more equitable future for San Mateo County!
Investigate Local Government
The League doesn't just talk about democracy—we shape it! Our positions are built on thoughtful study, spirited discussions, and consensus-building. This year, we’re diving into something big: local government transparency and accountability. In collaboration with the South County League, we are investigating how local elections are financed, how reports are handled, and whether the public has easy access to this vital information.
Help us uncover the story behind the money in local politics. By joining this team, you’ll help shine a light on hidden processes, spark important conversations, and set the stage for meaningful reform.
Be part of the change. Let’s dig in, ask the tough questions, and make local government work better for everyone. Ready to join? E-mail info@lwvncsmc.org for more information.
Let’s do this!
Make an Impact: Join a Legislative Interview Team!

Every year, we connect with state legislators or their staff to build relationships, spotlight the League’s priorities, and understand the policies shaping California’s future. These interviews are not just conversations—they’re a chance to amplify the League’s visibility and bring meaningful insights to our work.
What You’ll Do:
• Collaborate with fellow League members to prepare thoughtful questions.
• Participate in interviews with legislators to hear directly about their priorities.
• Share vital perspectives with our local League to inform our advocacy efforts.
Why Join?
This is a rewarding opportunity to:
• Engage with state leaders on issues that matter.
