Since 1920, the League has championed government transparency. Our Observer Corps gives community members a structured way to stay informed and hold officials accountable. By attending public meetings and reporting back, Observers shine a light on decisions that affect our lives, reminding leaders that the public is watching.

Want to get an insider's perspective on how local government works?
Join our April Observer Corps meeting. We’re pleased to welcome Donna Colson, longtime League member and dedicated Burlingame City Council member. Donna has served the Burlingame community for many years, including multiple terms on the City Council and as Mayor. She has been deeply involved in local and regional efforts on transportation, housing, sustainability, and public safety, and brings a collaborative, thoughtful approach to local governance.
Donna will share her perspective on what to watch for in local government meetings and how the League’s Observer Corps can help strengthen transparency, accountability, and effective local decision-making.
