New Redistricting Poll:
Georgia Voters Want Competitive, Fair Maps That Respect Their Communities
June 1, 2026
ATLANTA, GA – In a just-released poll, Georgia voters are loud and clear about redistricting.
Key findings:
An overwhelming majority of Georgians, 75%, want maps that support competitive elections
A clear and growing majority (64%) would change Georgia’s laws to require non-partisan map drawing
A clear majority, 60%, want maps that reflect Georgia’s diversity
Most voters want maps to be drawn that represent Georgia’s communities
A majority want an independent commission to draw the maps
A majority of voters would ban mid-decade map changes
The poll is the second-ever survey of Georgia voters on redistricting and was jointly sponsored by ACLU of Georgia, Common Cause Georgia, Fair Districts GA Foundation, and the League of Women Voters of Georgia. Details can be found on Fair Districts GA’s website.
“Georgia voters are demanding that lawmakers end the constant gerrymandering of Georgia’s maps,” said Ken Lawler, chair of Fair Districts GA Foundation. “Lawmakers have already tipped their hand; they falsely claim a mandate to redraw maps in 2026, which is only to gain further political advantage. Voters are demanding they do the opposite.”
“Georgia’s demographic diversity is a strength, and our electoral maps should reflect and respect that diversity - 60% of voters demand it,” said Rachel Glover, Associate Director, Voter Access Project, ACLU of Georgia. “Ignoring demographics while drawing maps would be a terrible disservice to all Georgia voters.”
“When 75% of voters across all political persuasions and backgrounds demand competitive elections, legislators need to pay attention,” said Rosario Palacios, Executive Director, Common Cause Georgia. “As Georgia’s statewide elections have become increasingly competitive, the outcomes of Georgia’s General Assembly and congressional elections have been predetermined by maps that have virtually eliminated competition. Further rigging of our maps will continue our state’s terrible history of mid-decade redistricting at the expense of Black and brown voters.”
"This poll shows Georgia voters want more than fair maps. They want a fair process,” said Jackie Killings, President of the League of Women Voters of Georgia. “A clear majority support a non-partisan independent commission, and a majority would ban mid-decade redistricting altogether. Voters are telling us the current system is broken, and they are ready for the kind of structural change that puts map-drawing in the hands of citizens, not politicians."
Fair maps are an essential part of Free, Fair, and Secure elections. Collectively, our organizations believe that maps should be drawn so that our elected leaders reflect us: Our political preferences and our communities in all respects.
