Recently Completed:
Georgia 2026 Legislative
Special Session Recap
The League of Women Voters of Georgia (LWVGA) provided a recap of the recent Georgia Special Legislative Session.
The Session's required purpose was addressing the issue of the July 1, 2026 legal deadline ending the use of ballots with QR codes for election processing.
Other items were added to the session agenda:
Redistricting voting maps
Adding hand-counting requirements for election operations
Increasing sales taxes to allow for a decrease in property taxes.
Action was taken on the ballot and hand-recount voting process issues. The other issues were not resolved, and some items were dropped because of voter push-back.
The LWVGA panel stressed the crucial importance of action. We need to monitor and speak out on legislative events, both as a league and as independent voters.
Souls to the Polls
Souls to the Polls on July 12, 2026 was a joint effort of Turner Chapel, LWV of Marietta-Cobb County and the GA Coalition for the People's Agenda of Cobb County.
At this non-partisan event, we confirmed voters' registration status and provided information about the November 2026 election. Voters learned date of elections and key deadlines for registering to vote and to request absentee ballots.
LWV MCC at the Marietta July 4th Parade
LWV Marietta Cobb-County showed their patriotism with flair at the City of Marietta parade on July 4th.
Members went out and displayed their spirit walking in red, white, blue, and even a suffragist sash! We also had a group cruising in a classy Corvette. Our team was cool even in the Summer heat!
