We had an interesting discussion about this research finding in class after our morning journal writing assignment:

The B118 has a known issue where it seems like it’s off, but is actually on.
Plug the computer into a charger.
If the lid light turns solid, the laptop should be fine.
If the lid light blinks, continue to step 2.
Hold the power button until the computer fully shuts off. NOTE: The screen should be completely black, and the lid light should remain constantly on.
Turn the computer on normally.
When shutting down the laptop, only use the power menu in the upper-right side of the screen, as shown here:
In the pop-up window that appears, hit “Shutdown…”, and wait for the screen to go completely black.
If the laptop is plugged into a charger at this time, the lid light will be constantly on.
If the screen changes to a purple background and asks for a password, ignore it and wait for it to turn off completely!
Growth Mindset - I can't...YET!
As a parent of a pre-teen myself, I use Big Life Journal quite often to address social and emotional issues, especially related to growth mindset, in class. Their email list sends out wonderful free resources on a weekly basis. https://biglifejournal.com/
I'm also a fan of Coach Will on instagram who focuses on growth mindset and healthy life skills for teens.
