This is my thirty-ninth year of teaching, and I could not be happier. Currently, I teach third grade, but have taught combination classes and fifth grade. I thoroughly enjoy teaching. Working alongside parents to bring out the best in their children gives me great satisfaction.
Mrs. Yollis was once a third grader!
Personal Information
I have a curious nature and am a lifelong learner. I earned a Master's degree in Integrating Technology in the Classroom, and I always seek out new ways to improve my teaching skills and advance the quality of education at my school. In 2011-2012, I was honored to be named my district's Teacher of the Year, and in 2014, I was a BAMMY Award finalist for National "Elementary Teacher of the Year"!
When I am not in the classroom I love to travel. In my early years of teaching, I spent three summers in Northern Spain teaching English to Basque children. It was an interesting experience teaching in another country. Traveling and learning about other people and places are passions of mine. My husband and I recently toured Eastern Europe on a river cruise. It was an amazing experience!
We plan to continue traveling, learning, and playing together for many years to come.
Professional Information
The summer of 2010, I spent three days right here...at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California! I attended the Google Geo Teachers' Institute for two days. We were taught how to use Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Sketchup in the classroom. The final day I worked with National Geographic. They have a fabulous learning program called the Giant Traveling Maps.
BAMMY Award finalist 2014 National "Elementary Teacher of the Year" Finalist! I attended the red carpet Washington, D.C. Award show with my principal, Stephanie Brazel. The BAMMY Award was the highlight of my profession life!
I am very fortunate; I love being a teacher and a lifelong learner too.
