Curriculum

In Journeys, children will participate in developmentally informed learning opportunities that are hands-on and play based. Using both the California Preschool Learning Foundations as well as the California State Standards for Kindergarten, activities and lessons are created with the ages and stages of our students at the forefront. Each day is carefully planned with the constructivist, child-centered, philosophy that play is a child's work. Through collaboration and cooperation, students will grow and learn across every developmental domain. Through games, role playing, simulating, moving, performing, storytelling, and exploration, students will learn everything from negotiation skills and turn-taking to learning about what it means to persevere through hard tasks. While growing their self-confidence and self-esteem in a positive, supportive, encouraging classroom environment, Journeys is the happiest place on campus.

I believe our classroom is an extension of your home. I want to see your family and culture represented at school in as many ways as possible. As our first unit, "My Family," kicks off the year, begin to think about what "family" means to you as parents. If I were visiting your home, what would I see, hear, taste, touch and smell? What takeaways would you want your child's classmates and me to know about your family?

I look forward to this year being a collaborative, enriching, wonderful year for us all! I'm glad you are here!
