Training Information & Career Spotlight
Where else can you play with high-tech toys, be the first on a job site, avoid cubicles, have great job security, become a member of the biggest construction union in North America, and never get lost? Technical Engineers include surveyors and inspectors. Surveyors are often the first and last of the Operating Engineers on a construction project. They determine the boundaries of the land, provide the construction staking so that the project is built correctly per the design and often provide a full topographical survey of the completed project. Inspectors inspect the fit-up and completion of welds, pick through rebar and observe concrete pours, measure depths of trenches and their subsequent dill, and engage in hundreds of other inspection and testing tasks to verify that a structure or other construction element is as the engineer designed it.
