Abstract:
The main purpose of a podcast is to entertain, educate, and persuade. Incorporating podcasting into a course allows students to foster creativity while deepening understanding of a particular concept. Students are currently listening to podcasts of all types on a regular basis, and are very familiar with the format and structure of the medium. Audio podcasts can be an alternate approach to traditional papers or videos. Audacity is a free, cross-platform audio recording software that can easily be incorporated into a curriculum with limited technical training. Podcasting is an option for those who wish to introduce a digital technology without producing fully developed video projects. Video production has a steep learning curve, software is not universal, and learners are often overwhelmed by the technical aspects of the project, and can lose sight of the academic purpose. Audio podcasts highlight scholarship using a relevant digital media that allows the focus to be on the content and not the process.
