Furlough/Exit
Furlough from Gifted & Talented Services
A furlough is a temporary leave of absence from gifted and talented services.
Students may return to their home campus during the furlough (no more than a year) and are not identified as G/T during that period.
Furloughs are specifically for students who are dealing with something that may hinder performance within gifted services.
A furlough may be requested by a parent, student, campus or district staff member.
A campus committee will determine if the furlough is granted and notify the parent.
A review will be conducted before the student may re-enter gifted services.
During the furlough, a student may have to meet certain criteria to re-enter services.
Exit from Gifted & Talented Services
An exit from gifted and talented services means that the student will have to re-test to gain re-admittance to services.
An exit occurs when the student, after an intervention plan and consultation with the parents, demonstrates that he or she is not performing within Lufkin ISD's gifted services.
A parent, student, campus or district staff member may request an exit from gifted and talented services.
