The number of non-emergent bilingual students admitted is based on program capacity and staffing for the upcoming school year.
Entrance into the program for non-emergent bilingual students is in Kindergarten only.
Out-of-district students are welcome to apply and may attend tuition free.
Attend one Parent Informational Meeting. Dates will be posted to the District's and Department's social media. Attendance is required.
Submit the Dual Language Application. Online application will open at 6:00 a.m. on February 6 and close on February 27 at 5:00 p.m.
Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
Our department will contact you to schedule a language screener for your child.
Application requirements will be verified once the application window closes.
Notifications of acceptance or waitlist placement will be sent on April 17, 2026.
Our department will coordinate notifications with GT Services for those students who applied for both programs.
Acceptance of placement and Parent Program Commitment form must be received by May 4, 2026.
Final placement information will be shared with receiving campus by May 15, 2026.
Incoming Kindergarten students will attend Burley Primary for both the Dual Language Magnet program and the Dual Language Magnet with GT Services program.
All Dual Language students attend Burley Primary for K-2nd and Slack Elementary for 3rd-5th.
The instruction is delivered in a 50/50 teaching model where students receive Spanish and English instruction daily in core content areas.
Students have the opportunity to continue advanced Spanish courses at Lufkin Middle School and Lufkin High School.
