OVERTURA STRINGS – a Sub Non-Varsity orchestra dedicated for beginning to developing students in preparation for advancing orchestral, solo and chamber repertoire. These students continue to refine foundational string instrument techniques and musical concepts. The Overtura Strings students are required to perform and volunteer during all concerts and will participate in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Event. Students are not required to participate in TMEA Region 16 All-Region Orchestra or UIL Solo & Ensemble; however, students are required to learn all All-Region audition repertoire, a solo composition, and chamber ensemble composition to be performed as assessments and final grades.
CONCERTO STRINGS – a Non-Varsity orchestra dedicated for developing to intermediate students in preparation for advanced orchestral, solo, and chamber repertoire. These students are expected to have developed foundational string instrument techniques and are prepared to practice more mature elements of performance skills and musical concepts. The Concerto Strings orchestra typically represents a larger population of students, including students preparing to transition into the varsity orchestra. Students in the Concerto Strings are required to perform and volunteer during all concerts and will participate in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Event. Students are also required to participate in the TMEA Region 16 All-Region Orchestra and UIL Solo & Ensemble events. Participation in these events will count towards their final assessments and grades.
SINFÓNIA STRINGS – a Varsity orchestra dedicated for intermediate to advanced students representing epitomal musicianship and performance practices in orchestral, solo, and chamber repertoire. These students have demonstrated mastery of foundational string instrument techniques and continue to develop advanced musical practices. Students in Sinfónia Strings will be introduced to and understand pedagogical techniques used to help nurture colleagues in the Non-Varsity orchestras. Students in the Concerto Strings are required to perform and volunteer during all concerts and will participate in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Event. Students are also required to participate in the TMEA Region 16 All-Region Orchestra and UIL Solo & Ensemble events. Participation in these events will count towards their final assessments and grades.
FULL ORCHESTRA – a Varsity orchestra exclusive for developing to advanced students who show leadership, conviction, and extreme interest in making music beyond the string orchestra ensembles. The Full Orchestra is comprised of both string and wind musicians (in some cases choral musicians as well). Students in the Full Orchestra are required to perform and volunteer during all concerts and will participate in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Event.
