Step One: Nominations (Early February) TEACHERS ONLY
- Nomination forms will be released to teachers in mid February (nominations only put some students on our radar if a student is not familial with PALS)
- Anyone can nominate students: Teachers, Administrators, Counselors, or Students may nominate potential candidates (including nominating themselves).
- Students will be notified of nomination and can attend an application meeting prior to the evaluation process.
Numerous announcements will be made via email and twitter to remind students of the ongoing process.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE NOMINATED TO ATTEND AN APPLICATION MEETING.
Step Two: Student Interest Forms
Any student nominated by a teacher or staff member will be emailed the interest form.
Current PALS will conduct meetings in ENG 2 classes to discuss the class. Here they will leave flyers for the interest form.
Step Three: APPLICATION
Filling out the application tells us that you have recieved more info on PALS and are serious about being part of next year's class.
Here we will send you a short application and send you the sign up link for an interview.
Step Four: Evaluations (Mid March)
This step is where you will need to begin to ask your teachers to evaluate you.
- Each student will be listed on an evaluation form and forwarded to all teachers and administrators.
- Staff will evaluate students they are currently teaching or have taught within the one school year.
- Students will be scored based on 5 categories. Categories: (trust, respect, honesty,attendance, leadership)
- Students must have a minimum of 5 teacher evaluations to be eligible.
-It is the students responsibility to ensure they have met all requirements. You will need to ensure that you have met all requirements for the process. You will need to be proactive!
Step Five Interview Workshop
There will be an interview workshop in J102 hosted by Debate Coach Ms. Marquess.
This meeting will help you with basic interview skills such as.
Body language
Questions
Addressing all parts of the question.
Professionalism
Workshops will take place on April 1st, 3rd, and 4th at 415pm in J102
Step Six Interviews
Applicants will be invited to partake in an interview on April 15/16 for PAL II and 18/19 for PAL III
These are professional interviews. IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE INTERVIEW WORKSHOP.
Each Interview will be about 10 minuets and students will be asked between 8-10 questions regarding but not limited to
Character
Integrity
Compassion
Kindness
Leadership
Responsibility
Punctuality
Step Seven Announcement
Class announcements will be made by late April. All interviewees will be notified via email.
Alternate emails will be sent to all students who did not make the first cut.
Frequently Asked Questons
How many elementary /middle school students will we work with?
A- You will have six students: Two at each school you visit on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
How do we travel out to schools
A- Students typically drive their own vehicle or ride with another student who drives. Unfourtanely we do not have transportation to each school we visit.
How many students are accepted into the program?
PALS I is contigent on how many returning officers we have for the PALs III senior officer course, but anywhere beteen 20-25.
Can students be removed from PALS?
Yes, students can be removed for violating school, district and class policy such using illegal substances, plagarism, skipping, bullying, fighting, etc. PALs are leaders and are expected to be kind, mindful, and respectful of everyone.
