Welcome to 7th grade Global Citizenship class. This is an inquiry based class and we will be studying Africa and 19th Century America. We will begin the year by looking at the people, geography, culture, and history of Africa. We will analyze and evaluate how competing national identities and beliefs may lead to national and international conflicts. We will examine how slavery and imperialism interfered with the rights of African citizens. We will also look at what the impact of the industrial revolution played in making America what it is today. We will analyze and understand the Civil War era by studying causes and effects, social contexts, and political and social implications, include the long-lasting effect of the clash of cultures as people from North and South migrated west and attempted to establish a new way of life. We will be looking at events from several different perspectives; so you must bring an open and inquisitive mind to class every day, and are prepared to participate in lively and thoughtful discussions, debates, role-playing, and other activities.
