📑 Lesson 5: Components of an Electric Circuit
Electric Cell (Dry Cell)
An electric cell, or dry cell, is a key part of an electric circuit that supplies energy to devices.
It has a positive and negative terminal, typically, the smooth end is negative and the end with a protruding cylinder is positive.
In circuit diagrams, this is shown as two parallel lines of unequal length.
Electric Bulb
An electric bulb is the component in an electric circuit that performs work using the electrical energy from a cell.
It operates by using electrons to heat the filament, producing light.
Electrical Switches
An electrical switch controls the flow of current in a circuit. When closed, the circuit is complete and electricity flows to power devices. When open, the circuit is broken and electricity stops, so the device doesn’t work.
Electrical Wiring
Electrical wiring in a circuit acts like a highway for electrons. Just as roads connect cities, wires connect components like batteries and bulbs, allowing electrons to flow and complete the circuit.
These thin conducting wires make it possible for electricity to travel from one part of the circuit to another so that devices can work properly.
