This Week's Message to Families June 1 - June 5

Click here to review last weeks assignments.

This week in Reading:

    • Read at least 20 minutes per day

    • Read 'Great Minds: J.K. Rowling' (scroll to bottom of this website to find article) and answer the questions about it.

    • Continue RAZ reading

      • See if you can record a few minutes of yourself reading

        • When selecting a book, you need to make sure you select the "Read" option, not "Listen"

        • There should be a button that looks like a microphone at the top of the page

        • Click on it and begin reading!

        • Watch a quick video tutorial here

    • Continue reading on Epic Books, Overdrive, or from your own bookshelf! (If you've never read Harry Potter you might want to give it a try.)

This week in Writing:

    • Journal:

      • Reason for writing: To inform: What job do you hope to perfom as an adult? Write a short nonfiction piece about what you think the typical daily routine is for someone in that profession. Illustrations are always welcome to enhance the assignment.

      • By Friday, try taking a picture of your writing or scan it and email it to your teacher (or teachers!)

This week in Math:

    • Focus on Fractions:

    • Check out the Math Antics videos on Fractions are Parts and Working with Parts. These will help to explain how the work is done. Don't be afraid to watch them more than once and also pause if you become confused.

    • Optional (but fun): Interview an adult to find out how they use fractions in their daily life or have a look at a recipe book to see how fractions are used.

    • Try fractions on IXL (K1-K11) . If these are too difficult remember you can always go to an easier grade level in IXL.

    • Please complete the fraction worksheets of your choice from below and scan them or take a picture of them and email them back to your teachers.

    • Work on anything of your choice in IXL or Mathletics.

Other:

    • Be sure to check out Mr. O'Brian's art website for Grade 5!

    • If you're looking for something else to do and practice a worthwhile skill at the same time, check out this typing website and create an account (for free!) and get started! We don't have official school accounts set up so you'll have to make one yourself.
