Holiday Message from Interim Superintendent Irma D. Trosclair December, 2019

During the month of December we not only reflect on the year in review, we also plan and identify priorities for the new year ahead. As we bid farewell to 2019 and welcome 2020, I want to thank our students, parents, teachers, staff, board, and community for their hard work, dedication, and service to the Lafayette Parish School System.

The first months of our school year have been a time of growth, progress, and achievement. School and district leaders, as well as our talented educators, remain focused on student achievement. Educators devote hours of service to our students and for that I am grateful. I am blessed to work with staff members, school leaders, educators, and board members who plan their work and base their decisions on what is in the best interest of the students of this great district. As I consider the work we do within the most important profession in the world, I am filled with hope and optimism.

Parents, thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with your most precious gift — your children. Recent parent-teacher conferences provided the opportunity for important conversations about how your child is progressing. I encourage you to continue to reach out to your child’s school and teacher regarding concerns or questions you may have. The connection between home and school is vital to your child’s social and academic success. Be reminded that the 2nd nine weeks of school ends on January 13, 2020. This date marks the midpoint of the school year. If your child’s progress is below average, reach out to your child’s teacher to identify areas for improvement. Do this now while there is still time to improve grades.

As I reflect on 2019, I am grateful to work with this extraordinary community! So many of you have demonstrated compassion and generosity in supporting our students and schools. To the many of you who have donated school supplies, uniforms, supported coat and toy drives, or who have volunteered in our schools, thank you! Community partners, know that your generosity has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

As we celebrate with our loved ones this holiday season, let’s be mindful that this time of year can be challenging for many. I ask that you please keep in mind those who are less fortunate or who may be alone during this time.

As a reminder, schools will be closed December 23 - January 4, 2020. School will resume on Monday, January 6, 2020.

In closing, my sincere wishes for a joyful and happy holiday season for all. May this special time be filled with love, peace, and blessings.

Happy Holidays from all of us to all of you!
