My name is Jenna Ellquist. I make art about the female perspective and experience through a variety of media. I have been exploring symbolism through material by experimenting with fiber arts, ceramics, paper mache, and found objects. I reflect the experiences of both myself and the women around me through storytelling and material use. I use a mixture of natural and vibrant colors together to create pieces that are intriguing when looked at from afar, and embedded with small details and symbolism when looked at closely.
I take inspiration from the stories told by the women around me, and from my own experiences as a woman. I take notes of the things my friends and family tell me, as well as the complaints and joys I see online. I am influenced by feminist art of the past as well as contemporary fiber and sculpture artists. With my art, I hope to influence more women to take advantage of the things women of the past have fought for. I want more women to be inspired to advocate for themselves and their rights.
Jenna is currently a Senior at Littleton High School who has been living in Colorado her entire life. Her father and family have been supporting her for as long as she can remember. He has been the primary supporter of her art and encourages her to try new things and find the joy in everything. Jenna has always had a passion for helping others and enjoying life. Art has always been a way for Jenna to express herself and connect with others, and she hopes to continue making art for as long as possible.
