Writing

We encourage students to think about their purpose and audience

Units of study cover the genres of Narrative, Informational, Opinion, and Poetry

We study writing by using authors as mentors in all units, and closely reading their work

We focus heavily on planning and organization of ideas, evidence, and research, as we continue practicing multiple paragraph pieces of writing

Spelling instruction will target spelling patterns and rules, "no excuse words", and word parts (prefix, root, suffix)
