Our Classrooms
Check out what we are learning in Kindergarten!
September Reading
We have started to meet the Super Kids. So far, we have met Cass and Oswald and will soon meet Golly. We are excited to be noticing, using and writing these letter sounds.
We have also been exploring Nonfiction Books by listening carefully to information, remembering what the text has taught us and making connections to things we already know a lot about.
September Writing
What is Ice Cream Paper? Ice cream paper is the paper that we will be using in writing. It has color-coded lines that help students notice and focus on the correct location when forming letters. The top line is the pink “strawberry” line, the middle line is the yellow “vanilla” line, and the bottom line is the brown “chocolate” line. We are working hard to place our letters on these lines correctly when we are writing Cc, Oo, Gg, and our first names. We are also focusing on using captial letters only at the beginning of our names and using the correct lower case letters for teh rest of our first names.
September Math
In our first unit of math we are focusing on the following skills:
Counting to 20
Recognizing and building sets to 10 using fingers, five-frames and ten-frames, and objects
Counting, ordering, and comparing numbers to 10
Writing numerals to 10
September Social Studies
We are learning about and practicing good citizenship in our classroom and throughout the school by being kind, following expectations, and including others in decisions. Some of the skills we are working on include:
Making new friends
Remembering the names of new friends
Unpacking and packing our backpacks independently
Putting things where they belong in our classroom
Following classroom routines and expectations
Calming our bodies and having listening ears during learning times
Sharing space with others
Greeting others kindly and including them in play
Learning something new every day!
