Our school was founded about 200 years ago in Riposto, a small town by the Ionic coast. About 750 students attend it at the present moment. The school offers technical and vocational studies: nautical; construction and territory; social and health services; and economics and marketing. It is composed of three buildings, all located in the town centre. One is nestled within a leafy public park; another in Liberty style, facing the harbour - both of them beautiful but today looking somewhat neglected and in need of repairing. The third school-building is in a residential area not far from the others.
The four branches of education last five years and come to an end after the students take state exams. Passing the final examinations awards the students a diploma, giving them the opportunity to find a good job or apply for any University field of study.
The Construction and Territory branch building has several well equipped Physics, Chemistry, Multimedia and language laboratories as well as a gymnasium, a cafeteria, and an assembly hall.
The Construction and Territory branch is focused on Civil Engineering, Cartography, Land Register, Real Estate, Cadastral Appraisal and Maths, together with humanities such as Italian literature, Italian grammar, History, English and Catholic Religion (optional). Our students’ Curriculum include human subjects because of our Latin origins and also because they help students to receive a wide and deeper educational background to begin their adult lives with.
Our staff consists of 110 teachers and about 40 assistants, led by a Headmistress.
Our school is interested in this project as it would be an opportunity for the students’ human and professional development, and offer a way to enrich their cultural interests. Due to the fact that our institute offers one specialization in “Building, environment and landscape” we would like to offer our contribution in a project dealing with sustainability and green building. Our object is to limit the environmental impact of construction in order to develop a sustainable awareness in the younger generations. We strongly believe our school, in this new context, can work better to give our students more opportunities to learn about other European cultures. These European experiences and exchanges enrich our students and teachers’ cultural knowledge, by getting in touch with other European cultures.
