Parents! We know many of you are overwhelmed with the amount of additional work and time that distance learning requires, which is why I wanted to create a one-stop space of resources for you. I surveyed teachers that were parents and asked them what types of resources they'd like to see and it ranged from relaxing videos to linking articles on how to help their children. (If there's something you'd like to see on here, feel free to email me with suggestions!)
Finding Balance with Social Media & Your Child
There are healthy ways to find a balance with social media. Here are additional resources as well as a few tips on how to protect students below:
Set boundaries. Ensure your student has a phone-use routine. This prevents from having it interfere with their sleep, homework or other responsibilities.
Have open discussions. Ask your child why they are using social media and if they understand its risks. Ask them how social media makes them feel and have a plan if they start to have negative emotions associated with their use.
Teach social media etiquette. Discuss appropriate behavior on social media. Ensure they carry their core morals on how to treat others as they interact with others virtually.
Set social media rules. Some suggestions are: (1) making their account private, (2) not accept friend requests from people they don't know, (3) having restrictions on what type of content they are allowed to post, consume and/or share.
