*Class breakdown:
100% - Unit tests and unit projects
Unit tests - 6 - 9 questions on current and previously learned concepts. Typically 40 - 50 points. Students are permitted to use their own hand written toolkits on their tests.
Students may start their test early at 7:30 AM.
Students needing additional time may receive it to answer questions and are given a max score of 70% for the questions they need to finish.
Unit Projects - As they tie in with the unit of study. Range from 15 - 40 points.
*Homework is nightly and gives practice on learned concepts and is required for students who are wanting to retake a summative unit assessment. Answers will be posted for students to check for correctness each class period and students will have time for clarification during class, lunch, break, or before school.
*Checkpoints - 4 questions (2 learned concepts and 2 from homework). 6 points total. These are used as a formative for students and the teacher to reassess part way through a unit of study. Students are permitted to use their notes and partners.
*Test retakes: Students will be able to retake summative unit tests for up 90% with no toolkits and up to 75% with toolkits. The retake tests will assess the same concepts and skills, but may look a little different. Test retakes will typically occur 1 - 2 weeks after the original assessment. The test retake will not have any extra credit.
To be eligible for retakes on a math unit test, students must:
Complete and correct the homework assigned in the unit prior to the retake test
Complete all test corrections correctly with a sentence explaining your mistake prior to the retake test
Test corrections:
- Rewrite the problem (unless it is a word problem)
- Show all of your work
- Circle or box your correct answer
- Write a sentence describing your error in detail or what you have learned about your mistake. If you didn't know how to do the problem, explain why you do know how.
