Counseling Services

In School Mandated Counseling is provided to certain students who are classified by the Committee on Special Education.

Other counseling services, such as non-mandated in school counseling, are offered and are dependent on staff priorities, crisis interventions, and scheduling limitations. Certain criteria must also be met for a student to be eligible to receive non mandated in school counseling. The primary criteria is whether or not the student's presenting problem/issue/behavior is evident in and affecting the student within the school environment, either emotionally or academically.

School Counseling within the school setting is not psychotherapy and is guided by Education Law, as psychotherapy is guided by Medical law.

Should you be looking for clinical psychotherapy to deal with behavioral problems that are exhibited outside the school environment or within the home setting , our mental health staff would be happy to assist you in accessing private treatment. Many insurance plans offer mental health services and provide their enrollees "provider lists" of psychologists, social workers and mental health counselors to choose from. Many plans also offer their enrollees to choose an "out of network provider".
