My name is Neil Klatsky and I am the social worker here at West Middle Island Elementary School. I sincerely enjoy working with the staff and faculty here, and most importantly having the opportunity to provide social work services to the parents and children of West Middle Island Elemnatry School. I am assigned to West Middle Island full time, Monday through Friday, and can be reached at 631-345-2832.

I am a Board Certified Clincial Social Worker and a Certified School Social Work Specialist. I have been a school social worker for 31 years. Twenty-two of those years at West Middle Island and nine years at Middle Country School District. I have worked in every grade level, Kindergarten through High School.

Here is a general list of the some of the many services/programs that I am involved in or provide.

Referrals to outside agencies and private practitioners for psychotherapy

In school group and individual Mandated school counsleing (As per the Committee on Special Education)

Consultation and support to student, staff and families regarding bullying, alcohol and drub related issues, finacinacial hardsip issues, and family stress issues.

I am the West Middle Island Homeless Liasion

Consultation with staff and families regarding Child Protective Services, Child Abuse and Maltreatment and reporting cases.

Consultation with staff and administration regarding student behavior.

Organizing, coordinating, and sustaining activities and services designed to optimize the functioningof students and or families.

Develop a health, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding o the emotional and social development of children and the influence of family, community and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective interventions.

Conducts social develipmental hsitories for students refrred for Special Edcuation services

Observes students in different settings and utilizes a variety of measures, both formal and informal to assess function.
