Accelerated Algebra

This is a fast paced, rigorous, intensive, and challenging course, which will appear on your high school transcript. Daily review is required as we will be learning topics from both 8th grade and Algebra. Please keep in mind that students will need to work on developing good study habits throughout the year. Students may practice various topics online using the IXL program (using their individual Longwood login) or practice problems from the Unit Review sections in their workbook after each unit. Students will be taught various methods and strategies to assist them in studying, but ultimately it will be up to each student to determine which method works best.

Some topics learned throughout this year will include: scientific notation, Pythagorean theorem, exponent rules, the number system, properties, evaluating and simplifying expressions, translating expressions and equations, relations and functions, solving and graphing linear equations, solving and graphing inequalities, solving systems of linear equations and inequalities, area and perimeter formulas, graphing functions (linear, quadratic, absolute value, exponential, cubic, square root, and cube root), writing and analyzing equations of functions, factoring, solving quadratic equations, and analyzing statistical data.
