Test Corrections

Parent/guardian test signatures and test corrections/evaluations are due within a week after receiving your test back. They must be handed in at the beginning of the period. Test corrections must be done on a separate sheet of paper and attached to the original test. Be sure to use the following heading:

Name Date

Test #___ Corrections Ms. Miller Per.___

You must complete the following three steps to receive full credit.

1) Copy the question (for each question on which you lost points-no checkmark)

2) Correctly solve the problem, showing ALL work & steps!

For questions with no work required (ie. properties), explain why your answer was wrong & why the correct answer should have been chosen.

3) Write a brief sentence explaining why you lost points

You may get extra help from any outside source, but be sure you fully understand your corrections! Similar type questions may show up on any future test, and you need to be able to learn from your mistakes!

Test corrections are helpful for several reasons. First and foremost, students that correct their tests display a willingness to learn the subject matter. They show that they are willing to put in some extra effort to learn the material and succeed in this class. Second, it provides students an opportunity to find their mistakes, hopefully preventing the same mistakes from being made in the future. Finally, it provides a boost to a student’s grade, relieving some of the disappointment of a poor grade or one that is lower than expected.

  • Test Corrections should be completed and turned in by the given date, usually between 5-7 days after the test gets handed back. (Students should be able to understand their mistakes prior to taking the next exam.)

  • Correction points will be entered into the grade book as a separate point category, so the actual test score will not change. However, the bonus points will be added into their test category.

  • They should be completed on a separate piece of paper and handed in attached to the test by the due date.

  • All questions that did not receive full credit should be corrected.

  • Students must copy each question (without a checkmark).

  • Each question requiring correction should be done in its entirety, showing ALL work and steps. I want to see the proper method of solving the problem. If no work can be shown, a brief explanation of why their answer is wrong and why the right answer is correct, is required.

  • Students must write a brief sentence explaining their mistakes. It is important to identify one’s mistakes so that they do not occur again on future tests and quizzes.

  • Graphs should be re-done on new graph paper/number lines. Sketches or corrections on the original test will not be accepted. (See me if you need extra graph paper.)

  • Students may use any resource available to find the proper solution. This includes textbooks, workbooks, websites, peers, and extra help sessions.

  • Corrections must be completed following these guidelines for credit to be earned.

  • An additional IXL assignment may also need to be completed to receive credit. Students should aim for a 90+ on any IXL assignments to ensure they have mastered the content of a specific standard. This also ensures students have practiced questions to challenge them at all levels of difficulty.

  • A child will not lose points for not completing corrections, or for improperly completing corrections. However, they will still be required to get their test signed by a parent/guardian.

Credit will be earned on the following scale if the corrections are complete and correct:

  • Grades between 90-98 will earn 10% of the lost points, with a minimum of 1 point (a grade of 92 will earn 10% of 8 points back or 0.8 points, rounded up to 1 point, essentially bringing the test grade up to a 93)

  • Grades between 80-89 will earn 20% of the lost points (a grade of 83 will earn 20% of 17 points, essentially bringing the test grade up to an 86)

  • Grades between 65-79 will earn 30% of the lost points (a grade of 65 will earn 30% of 35, essentially bringing the test grade up to a 76)

  • Grades 64 and lower will earn 40% of the lost points (a grade of 55 will earn 40% of 45, essentially bringing the test grade up to a 73)

*Please note that students should always correct and review mistakes made for each test they take. However, points may be earned back on selected tests only. Students will not be awarded extra points for completing test corrections on any benchmark tests or take home assignments. Take home assignments should be reviewed and corrected prior to submitting them. (Be sure to check with the grading rubric.) The opportunity to earn back points may be revoked at teacher discretion. (The goal is for students to learn to study prior to taking the assessment.)
