When selecting a name for your class, follow this convention:
Mr./Mrs./Ms. [Last Name] - Grade # [Subject if Platooning]
or
Mr./Mrs/Ms. [Last Name] - [Subject]
Until you have taught expectations for digital citizenship, please set Stream settings to:
"Only teachers can post or comment"
Afterwards, consider increasing their privileges in order to give students the opportunity to interact with you and each other.
Be sure to hit Save.
Think of the Stream as the social media side of Google Classroom. You can set the stream to hide or show classwork activity. If you ask me, classwork belongs on the Classwork tab, and the cool things you and your students post or share belongs on the Stream.
We know you have and will continue to communicate with parents. Google Classroom offers you the opportunity to automatically generate summaries/updates that will be sent to parents on your behalf.
It is a good idea to enable this if you plan on inviting guardians.
Since will be Zooming all over the place, disable the Google Meet link. It may still appear in your view, but it will have a crossed-out eye on it. This means your students will not see it.
But how will my students find my Zoom link?
Create a topic that is called "Resources/Tools" and place your Zoom Personal Room link there.
*If you need Google Meet for accommodating students who are hearing impaired, please speak with your administrative team to discuss.
Topics are great. If you haven't used them before, you will love them.
We ask that you create Topics that follow this naming convention:
Week [#] -- [Start Date] - [End Date]
i.e. Week 1 -- 9/8 - 9/11
Please keep the most recent week at the top.
Naming your assignments properly and consistently is essential to providing your students/parents with a simple method of finding exactly what they should be working on and when.
Please use the following naming convention when naming assignments:
[Date Expected to Begin Work] - [Subject] [#sequence] - [Title]
i.e. 9/8 - Science #1 - How Many on a Penny?
Name the topic for next week "Preview of" and then the normal week name (see above). As you build out the content for the upcoming week consider doing the following:
Post a "material" that outlines what students will need
Schedule the remainder of the work so that they appear only at the start of the week
