“You are your best thing.” Tony Morrison

Hello and Welcome!

I am very excited about this upcoming year; getting to know each of you and sharing my passion for English presents a unique opportunity. I am in my 20th year as a teacher here at LHS. I have a variety of classes and grade levels keeping each new day fun and exciting…there are never any dull moments!

I focus on Freshmen in Honors English. I am also teaching Honors Creative Writing, a dual enrollment class offered through Southern New Hampshire University.

In addition to traditional day school classes, I also teach in the LHS Adult Education program, a great resource for students looking for an alternative way to earn their high school diploma. I have also had opportunities to teach with SNHU both on campus and in their COCE program.

I earned my B.A. and M.A.T. at UNH in English Teaching. The 5 year program there was an amazing opportunity allowing me to complete a Master's degree right away. I would highly recommend taking advantage of this if your secondary school offers it! I have also completed my M.Ed. in Educational Administration at Rivier University. With this degree and principal certification, I hope to eventually work closely with curriculum alignment across an entire school district.

This is my husband Chris and our two little munchkins: Grayson (9) and Ainsley (6). Although, they aren't so little anymore! Here was their first day of school this year: 1st and 4th grade.

We also have a 3 year old English lab named Boomer. He is more like a third baby than a pup.

We love being outside; the beach is our favorite place to go! I love exploring with my kids, landscaping, skiing, and enjoying my hobby of photography. Our extended family loves New England sports and spending time together; every weekend tends to be a new adventure.

I love learning and revamping things to make them the best they can be. My care and concern for my students is innate and something I treasure about myself. I am excited about the opportunity to continue to develop this trait as I explore new and interesting ways to work with learners that are at different points in their life, at various stages in their education, and are looking to achieve unique, personal goals.

Creating a classroom environment that works for ALL of my students is very important to me and a skill I look forward to fostering.

I encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns you have as soon as you have them.

I am eager to embark on this journey with each of you!

Warmly,

Mary Shank mshank@londonderry.org
