Stop-motion animation is achieved when objects are photographed, moved slightly, then photographed again. When the series of photos are played back at a fast rate, the illusion of movement is created.
In this unit, students learned about story structure, storyboarding, prop and set creation, capturing stop motion frames, sequencing, editing, and how to enhance their productions with sound.
The stop motion animations have sound. All projects can be seen in full-screen mode. Click on the triangle icon to play.

Winner of the Nature Photo Contest: "A Well Deserved Rest"
"A bumble bee sits atop a starburst hydrangea as if taking a rest while being shaded by yet another starburst hydrangea.
I like the different colors, specifically the vivid green of the leaves and the light purple of the hydrangea complimenting the yellow of the bee. I also like how you can see everything clearly. I also like how you can almost feel the texture of the flowers and the bee through the camera. Another thing I enjoy about the picture is the canted angle that gives the image far more character."
Winner of the Halloween Photo Contest : "Pumpkin Heads"
"We put carved pumpkins on our heads and found a broken car to have a photoshoot with.
I like the aesthetic look of the broken-down car and the pumpkins on our heads. I also like how much effort we put into getting this photo by walking through a lot of woods with giant pumpkins. I like all the leaves on the ground and our outfits give a Halloween vibe."
Students learned how dialogue, sound effects, background sounds, and music play important roles in different types of audio productions. After many skill-building activities including voice recordings, creating Foley effects, selecting proper sounds and music from sound libraries, and mixing/editing their audio tracks, students created their own "podcast".
