When kids are feeling stresses or out of sorts, it is helpful to offer tools that will redirect their thoughts, break the cycle, and calm them down. Different children find different things calming, and Morris Area Elementary School put together a Virtual Calming room to speak to all the senses and provide tools a child can use to calm themselves. These tools can be offered when frustration is just beginning to be observed (and before a challenging situation), or after a situation to further assist a learner to calm down. It may be through trial and error to find a tool that works well with your learner, but it can be worth the effort once a preferred method is discovered.
This "Calming Room" offers tools to help kids when they need assistance calming down (such as coloring, sounds, movement, guided meditation, and more!).
