Systematic Positive Behavior Supports

Staff members will model, expect, and enforce expectations by taking appropriate action when expectations are not being met. A common set of core beliefs and principles identified by staff members serve as the basis for all decisions regarding the treatment of discipline problems.

Teacher Managed Behaviors

Level 1 Behaviors:

Behaviors easily dealt with and taken care of in the classroom setting.

  • Talk outs

  • Out of Seat

  • Non-Compliance

  • Mildly inappropriate interactions

  • Off-task

  • Unprepared

  • Refusal to complete work or participate

  • Academic dishonesty

Level 2 Behaviors:

Behaviors should be dealt with first in the classroom. If a problem continues and the teacher is unable to teach through the disruption, an office refocus referral is appropriate:

  • Moderately inappropriate interactions

  • Defiance: running away, arguing, screaming

  • Disruptive: behavior that prevents others from learning

  • Inappropriate computer use

  • Throwing objects

  • Electronic devices (cell phone)

Level 1 and 2 Behavior Interventions

All teachers utilize school-wide level plans within the classroom setting to promote appropriate behaviors and deter inappropriate behaviors. Teachers will notify individual students of inappropriate behavior and will take action accordingly:

  • 1st Incident: Precision Requests from the teacher

  • 2nd Incident: Teacher conference with explicit feedback (consequence at the discretion of the teacher)

  • 3rd Incident: Reflection Form (parent contact by teacher/consequence at the discretion of the teacher)

  • Office Refocus Referral if behavior continues

          • Student will work with the Refocus Specialist to regulate their emotions and deescalate their behavior

          • Student will take responsibility for their behavior

          • Student will write their teachers a letter describing why their behavior was inappropriate and the steps they will take to improve

          • Student will ask the teacher if they can return to class

Administration Managed Behaviors

Level 3 Behaviors:

Behaviors or Safe School Violations that should always be dealt with through Principal Cole and the Refocus Specialist (Nikole Pruhs), and are always an automatic office refocus referral:
