Academy Expectations

Our Three Academy Expectations

In our academy, we promote positive behaviour. This ensures our children grow into safe, respectful and responsible citizens and allows all children to learn in a calm environment.

We work with children to make sure that they understand why it is important to be safe, be respectful and be responsible.

We teach children how to be safe, respectful and responsible members of the community because this enables them to learn better and also prepares them for life once they leave our academy.

Be Safe

Be Respectful

Be Responsible

Learner Model

The Outwood learning model ensures that children develop the characteristics of good learners and the vital skills required for the next phase of education and work.

To ensure that we have successful learners, we consistently refer to our Learning Model which has 10 skills and qualities.

We believe that by exposing children to activities which foster and embed these skills/ qualities, we are creating successful learners.

Rewards

Outwood Primary Academies recognise the importance of the use of rewards to motivate children and as recognition of children whose effort meets our expectations. There are many ways children are praised and rewarded, for example:

• The use of Praising Stars © - all children receive a Praising Stars © report every half term which includes recognition of effort. This is sent home to parents and children whose effort is particularly high are celebrated within the academy through awards and events.

• Super Swirls – children collect Super Swirls which are awarded by all staff to children who are following the academy expectations of ‘be safe, be respectful and be responsible’. These are exchanged for award certificates.

• 'Star of the week' celebration assembly - each class teacher will select a child that deserves a special mention for their efforts in class.

• 'Learner Model' celebration assembly - each class teacher will select a child that has demonstrated a particular skill or quality.

'Accelerated Reader' - showcased and shared in class to reward the pupil who has read the most words during the last week. Word Millionaire badges are also presented to any children who read over a million words in an academic year!

'My Maths' - showcased and shared in class to reward the pupil that has accessed the most online maths learning during the last week.

'Times Tables Rockstars' - showcased and shared in class to celebrate their rock star status, speed and accuracy.

Attendance Award' - weekly class certificates and a half termly reward through our Meerkat Movies board.

Each term, Talent Awards are awarded across the academy in recognition of exceptional effort, attitudes and achievement in each of the subject areas.

Consequences

‘Consequences of Behaviour’ is designed to give children choices. Its principal role is to support learning by tackling and dealing with low-level disruptive behaviour, i.e. behaviour that undermines the children’s own learning or that of others. If unchecked, this sort of behaviour disrupts lessons and undermines the authority of the teacher. Children are given clear warnings in the classroom - C1, C2, C3. If disruptive behaviour continues, parents are informed and subsequent consequences are issued for C4, C5 and C6.
