Instructors and their students set up an aquarium in the classroom, receive fish eggs under a special CDFW permit, and observe the fish as they hatch and develop. The experience culminates before spring break with the release of the salmon fry in the Mokelumne River. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary project for grades K-12.
On January 9, 2025, 54 Lodi USD classrooms received salmon eggs to begin the journey! Students are now making daily observations, monitoring tank temperature and pH, and predicting when their eggs will hatch. Stay tuned!
