A claim that answers the question
Evidence from students' data
Reasoning that involves a "rule" or scientific principle that describes why the evidence supports the claim

Just_Because[1].pdfThe CER format to writing explanations is not a trivial thing for your students. You will need to explicitly introduce and model it for them. They will need support throughout the year as they get better at writing explanations.
In this video Paul Andersen explains how the CER framework can be used to give explanations in a science classroom. In order to make a complete explanation a Claim must be supported by Evidence and Reasoning connecting the evidence to the claim.
