TLI Reflections
At which level (emerging, developing, performing, or transforming) in the progressions do you NOW place yourself for each of your four chosen competencies? In some areas I thought I was emerging or developing but in other areas I don’t think I even hit the emerging. We all bring different perspectives to the table. By listening with an open mind, this can help others to see that we need to be aware of other points of view. We have started negotiations and this is important to learn from others and listen to their perspectives. I am more aware of the disparities and how sometimes our language is more racist that we think.
How did the TLI experience—both curriculum and Capstone project—impact your growth as a teacher leader in each of your four chosen competencies? What evidence supports each of your claims? I realized that others also have talents and abilities that can help the association. I had a teacher run for an association position, another volunteered to do all the editing and did a fabulous job, another offer to send out reminders to upcoming meetings . We didn't even ask them for help, they became so involved in the process! Group Reflection- We sent a survey to the participants. It received great comments, but some also ah has. I have included them here. (See below) With out TLI, this handbook would have take a while to create, if ever! I have learned more about being a leader and how that impacts others to want to become leaders.
What are your next steps to continue your growth as a teacher leader? I really learned a lot about myself and how I need to keep improving on my practice. I have learned a lot about myself through this process. As from the Context page, you can see where I started in my selected competencies. Through each face to face and zoom meeting I began to see my self developing a bigger "world view" or my problems and struggles. I ran for NEA delegate and was elected! (See speech below) The TLI process gave me the confidence that I needed and allows me to continue to look for opportunities for growth. I no longer need others to decide if I'm a leader, I can take that role on and help others!
What was the most valuable part of the TLI process for you? Meeting with teachers from across the nation. I realized that sometimes things don't seem to be "that bad" when I compare my struggles with others. Seeing others successes gave me the motivation to keep trying.
Other things I learned..
I learned that a mission statement is what I currently do where as a vision statement is something I strive for in the future. These are what they were when I began this process.
My Mission Statement
As a teacher leader, I will foster professional learning opportunities that will help others along their path. I will accept each challenge and try to look for positives in everyone and every situation.
My Professional Statements
As a teacher leader, I hope to understand we all come have various backgrounds, learning styles, and goals which allow me to help others. By working together, I will gain insight into their perspectives which will allow for all to be accepted. I will be an advocate for positive change and education for all.
These are pretty basic, but as the year moved along, these words began to take on new meaning. Where before, they were mere words that sounded good. Now, it actually means something!
Mission Statement
As a teacher leader, I will create safe environment that fosters professional learning opportunities that will help others along their path. With humility, I will accept each challenge and try to look for positives in everyone and every situation.
Vision Statement
As a teacher leader, I hope to understand we all come have various backgrounds, learning styles, and goals with allow me so help others. By working together, I will gain insight into their perspectives which will allow for all to be accepted. I will be an advocate for positive change and education for all.
