High School Timelines
Timelines are important when discussing college applications and must be adhered to in order to maximize your opportunities.
Class of 2024:
Junior year
Fall
Take the PSAT
Spring
Meet with your LNC counselor for junior meeting
Take the ACT in March
Take the SAT in March - June
Complete the recommendation survey on Naviance for your teachers to reference by May
Ask your teachers (2 recommended) for a letter of recommendation for college applications in mid-May
Research colleges on Naviance and add to your Colleges I'm Thinking About
Look at the scholarship list
Summer
Work on a rough draft of your common app essay prompts
Complete your resume with your activities during your HS career for your college applications
Visit colleges
Make your common application account in July and start adding colleges you know you will be applying to
Start looking at the Scholarship list
Senior year
Fall
Meet with your LNC counselor for your senior meeting
Decide if you are applying early action, regular decision or early decision.
Early Decision - must let us know
Fee waivers - must let us know
Match your common application account with your Naviance account by September
Look at the CFNC website to determine if any of your schools are listed under the free application college week.
You will need to apply to each school separately through CFNC if you are applying during free college application week.
Add your teachers to your Naviance account under letters of recommendation and then speak to your teacher directly to thank them
Complete your college applications
Determine if you want to apply for honor colleges
SAT/ACT - must send on own
Residency - Fill out via CFNC website
Check your emails for username and passwords to your college portals
Create your FSA ID and complete your FAFSA (opens October 1) and complete the CSS Profile (through the College Board) if your college requests it.
