Parent FAQ**
College and Career Promise (CCP) Dual Enrollment allows eligible Lake Norman Charter (LNC) high school students to take tuition-free college courses through Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) while still enrolled in high school. Students earn official college credit, and in some cases, high school credit.
Eligibility is determined by the state CCP guidelines and CPCC requirements. Most pathways require:
A 2.8 unweighted GPA OR qualifying benchmark assessment scores in English, Reading, and Math
Some Career & Technical pathways may have different eligibility requirements
Eligibility is pathway-specific and reviewed during the application process.
Students may take:
College Transfer courses (general education courses that may transfer to 4-year universities)
Career & Technical courses (career-focused courses leading to certificates, diplomas, or credentials)
Not all courses count toward high school graduation requirements. Students must consult their counselor before registering.
Tuition is covered by the state of North Carolina.
However, families are responsible for:
Student fees
Textbooks
Required supplies or materials
Yes. All CPCC courses appear on BOTH:
The student’s college transcript
The student’s Lake Norman Charter high school transcript
Grades earned in CPCC courses are permanent and may impact GPA and future college admissions.
This is very important for families to understand:
If a student withdraws from or is dropped from a CPCC course without replacing it in the same semester, the student will receive an “F” on their high school transcript.
Medical or compassionate withdrawals must be approved by CPCC and communicated to the LNC counselor before the end of the grading period.
Proper documentation is required for transcript updates.
Students are responsible for registering themselves for CPCC courses by all deadlines.
This is a key part of the college-level expectation of the program.
Parents and counselors may guide, but students must complete the process independently.
Students have access to:
CPCC professors and academic support services
Tutoring and office hours
LNC counseling support and a CCP Coordinator
However, CCP is designed to mirror the college experience. Students are expected to advocate for themselves by communicating directly with professors and seeking help when needed.
CCP students are expected to:
Register for CPCC courses on time
Check CPCC email daily
Monitor assignments, grades, and deadlines
Communicate directly with professors
Attend tutoring or office hours when needed
Follow up on missing or late work
Notify the CCP Coordinator of academic or personal concerns
Students are also required to complete quarter check-ins and progress updates twice per quarter, even during quarters when they are not enrolled in CPCC courses.
These check-ins allow the CCP Coordinator to monitor progress and provide support where needed.
Due to FERPA (federal privacy law), CPCC communicates directly with students, not parents. Parents will not automatically have access to grades, emails, or course information unless the student chooses to share it.
This is a normal part of the college experience.
No. CPCC and LNC calendars may not align.
Students must follow CPCC’s academic calendar, including start dates, breaks, exams, and deadlines — even when LNC is not in session.
Academic planning or high school credit questions: LNC Counselor
Program expectations or student concerns: CCP Coordinator
College systems, login, or technical issues: CPCC IT Help Desk
Students are encouraged to communicate concerns early so support can be provided.
CCP is an excellent opportunity, but it is not the right fit for every student. Successful CCP students are:
Organized and responsible
Comfortable advocating for themselves
Willing to manage college-level expectations
Prepared for permanent transcript consequences
Families are encouraged to carefully review program expectations before committing.
