LNC and CPCC’s academic calendars may not align therefore you must adhere to CPCC’s schedule even when LNC is not in session.
What is dual enrollment through an NC Community College?
Students have the opportunity to take NC Community College Courses that have a transfer guarantee to any public North Carolina university (read the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement here, if interested).
Students will receive either equivalent credit or elective credit (depending on the course) at their NC College/University. For private and out-of-state schools, you must ask a transfer evaluator as to the transferability of courses.
Tuition is FREE, which can save parents hundreds of dollars per semester hour; however, students are responsible for paying fees, books, and any needed supplies.
What types of NC Community College Courses are available?
College Transfer courses allow students to get a head start on some general education courses that may be required at a 4-year college/university.
Career & Technical courses allow students to explore their interests in specific career options and potentially get a head start on a career. Students can earn college credits toward a job credential, certificate, or diploma in a technical career.
College Transfer/Career Technical Eligibility Requirements:
College Transfer and Career Technical Pathways
For All College Transfer Pathways & some Career & Technical Pathways:
Cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR benchmark assessment scores in all areas of English, Reading, and Math.
For select Career & Technical Pathways:
They do not require a 2.8 GPA or qualifying test score.
Course Registration Info:
ACA122 (1 credit) does not count as a high school course and is not listed on your LNC transcript however you will need to take it to complete the transfer pathway. You must register for an additional CPCC course when taking ACA122 except when taken 2nd semester of your senior year.
Courses that are not 3 or more credit hours at CPCC will not be placed on LNC transcript for a grade however you will earn the credit hours for your college transcript.
You may send your AP score report to CPCC, and they will award you credit for the equivalent course. This may help you complete your pathway and move toward your associate degree.
You must make sure you have planned this out ahead of time so you do not get removed from a course you are taking due to receiving credit from your AP class.
If interested in obtaining your associate degree through CPCC, please set up an appointment with your counselor for planning purposes.
LNC and CPCC’s academic calendars may not align therefore you must adhere to CPCC’s schedule even when LNC is not in session.
Dual Credit for LNC Courses:
If you are interested in taking one or more of the CPCC courses to fulfill your graduation requirement(s), YOU MUST speak with your counselor before scheduling.
You MUST pass these courses or you will not be promoted to the next grade level. It may also affect your graduation status. You will need to repeat the course you failed.
If students complete their arts transfer pathway, they may move toward courses within the associate of arts degree.
