Paulding Middle School offers a variety of semester and year length electives. Students sign up for elective classes they prefer, but lack of space or individual student schedules may require placement into an alternate preference. Classes are dependent upon class size, enrollment, and staff availability. Students with an IEP will have their schedules determined based on their IEP (please speak directly with your student’s IEP case manager about this). A current list of electives can be found on the Paulding Website.
Advisory is a purposefully planned period of time where students will receive daily announcements, conduct communications, practice organization skills, and participate in team activities. Advisory will be 1st period and will be a credit/no-credit course that does not count towards Honor Roll and sports eligibility. Currently, Paulding participates in Universal Breakfast in the Classroom. All students are offered breakfast during 1st period.
Students who are more than one year behind grade level in reading/language arts or mathematics may be placed in an intervention class for their elective. Students who are currently receiving a D or F in one of their core classes may also be placed in a support class for their elective.
The school year is divided into four marking periods- 2 quarter marks and 2 semester marks. Students are graded academically on their knowledge and skills as they relate to the standards learned in each subject, their daily work, their homework, and their performance on tests and quizzes. They are also graded on their daily conduct. Progress reports are sent through ParentSquare at the end of each quarter. The semester grades at the end of the first semester in January, and at the end of the second semester in June, become a part of your “grade history” or permanent record. Students earning high marks on semester report cards in January and June may qualify for additional rewards. The semester grade reflects the student’s performance for the entire 18-week (two quarters) grading period. Parents are encouraged to contact the school office if they do not receive these reports within two weeks of their issuance
All student information will be accessed and changed from Aeries. It is the parent’s responsibility to sign up. Aeries is a secure program that allows parents to view their child’s grades and attendance, and much more. It is a vital piece of communication whereby parents can get a glimpse of their child’s performance and stay connected with the school. To take full advantage of Aeries you will need an internet connection and your child’s student ID number provided by the School District. Aeries can be accessed from the Paulding Middle School. When using Aeries, please keep in mind grades and assignments are not updated daily like attendance. Teachers will issue an assignment and it may not appear in the gradebook for more than a week. If you need help accessing Aeries check with the Paulding front office.
We have found that many academic and behavior problems can be avoided if there are regular communications between the student, teachers, and parents. Paulding will be offering scheduled Parent/Staff conferences in the fall. These conferences are reserved for our most at-risk students and will be scheduled through the Paulding office.
All parents and students are encouraged to check Aeries weekly, email teachers questions and concerns, and set up appointments to meet with teachers as needed. Individual teacher conferences can be arranged during the year by emailing or messaging the teacher through ParentSquare with whom you want the conference. If you desire a group or “team conference” with the core group of teachers who work with your child directly, you may contact the Paulding office.
