First Week

of K

Please check when your child's first day of school is, Tuesday, September 5th or Wednesday, September 6th. Students with last names starting  A-M will start school on Tuesday, September 5th. Students with last names starting N-Z will start school on Wednesday, September 6th.  On your child's first day of school, kindergarten parents escort their child to their classroom.  Kindergarten students are scheduled to arrive at 10AM.  Please do not send your child to school on the bus on the first day. Instead, please bring your child to school and walk your child to the classroom where you will attend a parent orientation from 10am-11am. We are in room 46.

There is a list of supplies that all kindergarten teachers ask you to provide for use throughout the school year.  You can find that list on my website. Please bring these items with you on your child's first day of school.

***Please make sure to bring your photo ID to the building and be prepared to show it to our greeter in order to obtain access to the school.  This is for the safety of the children!***

PLEASE NOTE: Half of the class will come to school on the first Tuesday of the school year.  (The following day these children have NO school).  The other half of the class will not have school on the first Tuesday but will come on Wednesday.  ALL kindergarten students report to school on Thursday and Friday for a full day of school.  Students are expected to arrive at school between 8:45 and 9:00 on a normal school day.  You will receive a letter in the mail from the school office telling you if your child is scheduled to come on Tuesday or Wednesday for his/her first day of Kindergarten.

On the first day, your child will be coming home with a "bus tag" on a class-specific colored lanyard.  It will have vital information (your child's name, classroom number, teacher name, etc.) It is EXTREMELY important that your child wears their name tag to school every day - especially during the first few weeks.  One thing this tag does is alert our staff that your child is a kindergartner. Therefore, we can provide him/her with help in getting to the classroom.  It also helps us get all of the children to the correct place at dismissal time.  YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY IS MY UTMOST PRIORITY!  Thank you for your cooperation with this!

PLEASE pack 1 HEALTHY SNACK for your child daily.  We have 1 snack break each day in addition to a lunch period.  We do ask that it be a "healthy" snack.  If you are not sure what constitutes a healthy snack, please click on the Snacks and Lunches tab.  Snacks must be sent from home, however, students do have the opportunity to buy lunch at school.  If your child is bringing lunch from home, we have found that labeling foods with an "S" for snacks and "L" for lunch is helpful! I recommend you utilize the blue bag provided at orientation for your student's snacks. You can also place a sticker on the snack items to help your child figure out which items are meant for snack, rather than lunch.  Since the lunch routine can take a little getting used to, I suggest that you pack your child's lunch until they are comfortable with the routine.

Dismissal begins at 3:20 PM and your child will be escorted to his or her bus line, with their bus tag on. PLEASE REVIEW WITH YOUR CHILD HIS/HER BUS NUMBER. If you plan on picking your child up by car, we have a "valet pick up" procedure. Cars begin to line up in front of Pine Road at 2:45/3:00 PM.  Please allow extra time if you are planning on picking up your kindergarten student by car.  Also, the buses can be slow during those first few days of the school year. Please be patient. Keeping your child's dismissal routine as consistent as possible benefits your child tremendously! You will be amazed how quickly everyone adapts to the new school routines!  If your child's dismissal needs must change, please provide a written note.  I cannot change dismissal methods based on what your child tells me.  In the case of an emergency, please call the office.
