Welcome to Guitar class! In this class, we will learn how to play chords, riffs, songs, and more on the guitar! We will explore the basics together, and then you will be able to dive deeper into the topics and songs that interest you! We will play a wide range of music in this class and have many opportunities for you to choose your own songs to work on. This course is flexible to fit your needs, goals, skill level, and interests. Whether you have played guitar for many years or have never been within ten feet of a guitar, this class will have a place for you! You will succeed in this class if you have consistent attendance, participate fully, show up with a good attitude, and do your best. 

In the first week of class, we will....

• Get to know each other!

• Discuss what this class is about and the opportunities we will have.

• Learn correct guitar positioning, posture, and basic strumming technique.

• Recognize, memorize, and be able to name the guitar strings.

• Learn how to read a chord chart.

• Start to learn a few chords! Once you learn four main chords (E minor, G Major, C Major, and D Major), you can play hundreds of songs.

• Learn the basics of reading tablature "tabs" notation.

• Learn the following riff:

  • • "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple

• Have experience on both the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar.
