Valley TLC stands for "theater, lights, and charity". The organization works to provide students at Welsh Valley with meaningful theater experiences, rooted in best practices. Our program strives to make theater accessible to all individuals, providing multiple opportunities to participate that draw on diverse skillsets. We produce shows that excite our students, while providing avenues for growth and reflection. For every student performing on-stage, there is another working behind the scenes to ensure they look and sound their best. Valley TLC's participants are encouraged to be mindful of the many opportunities presented to them and utilize their resources to ensure others receive the same.
Valley TLC is comprised of multiple departments, all of which work together to produce the shows you see on-stage. Much of the program is student-run, with older students mentoring those younger than them. Click on the photos to learn more about each department's roles and responsibilities.
Students in the cast and choir perform on-stage. They are the actors and singers that tell the show's story. Individuals in grades 5-8 are eligible for participation in the cast and choir. All Valley TLC performances feature a cast. The choir is featured in the spring musical. Participation is determined by audition.
Students in the pit orchestra provide instrumental accompaniment for the spring musical and other musical theater performances. They perform alongside professional musicians. Pit Orchestra members are invited to participate in collaboration with the Welsh Valley Music Department.
Students in stage crew work behind the scenes to ensure that the production runs smoothly. Individuals in grades 5-8 are selected for stage crew based on a written application process. This department features multiple student leaders that assist with theater technology, organizing set changes, and supporting backstage functions. The fall play and spring musical both feature a stage crew of approximately 15 individuals.
DESIGN CREW
Students in the design crew help design and create the sets, props, and costumes that are featured in Valley TLC's productions. The fall play and spring musical feature a design crew of approximately 25 individuals. Students are selected to participate based on a written application process.
The 2022-2023 Valley TLC production team features many individuals who are new to the Welsh Valley community. The production team works alongside student leaders to bring students' artistic visions and creative pursuits to life. Their guidance and expertise ensures that students are receiving a meaningful learning experience.
