Bala Cynwyd Middle School has a football team coached by Mr. Ryan with assistant coach Mr. Gallagher.7th and 8th graders are able join the team each fall and must be able to make it to all of the games and practices and maintain good grades to stay on the team.
I had a chance to sit down and interview Mr. Ryan, the head coach of the BCMS football team. When asked what it's like to be on the team, Coach Ryan said "It's a lot of work but it's fun," and, "we consider ourselves a family."
When asked why someone should join coach Ryan responded, "You will become stronger and better physically and mentally...You learn how to play football which includes learning the correct techniques and fundamentals."
During the fall football season the team meets on the football field every weekday from 3:15 to 5:15 for practice. One fun fact about the team is currently they have had back-to-back winning seasons. There are some special games as well- every season they have their biggest game when they play Welsh Valley MS at Harrington High School on a Friday night under the lights.
Coach Ryan said the team is looking good based off their one scrimmage against Welsh Valley- games and scrimmages were put on hold due to Covid-19. Students can join the team next year by completing a CIPPE during the summer. CIPPE's are available on the school website or you can stop in to see Mr. Ryan in Room 304.
