Assignment:
Create a 15-20 minute podcast with an intro theme and a 30-60 second “sponsored advertisement”.
The podcast industry is rapidly expanding. Just in terms of business, podcasting in 2024 is a $23.5 billion industry that totals over 540 million listeners worldwide. Part of the growing appeal of podcasts is the ability to find something that appeals to the individual consumer. But in terms of creation, part of the appeal for hosts is the relative ease of entry into this market. Almost anyone with access to recording software, a microphone, and some basic editing knowledge can get started as part of the podcasting world.
Everything that we have done in class so far has been a lead-up to this project. You are allowed to say whatever you want on your podcast, but in the editing process it will be up to you to censor yourself and your co-hosts/guests when applicable. You will also be able to record with at least one other person and use your choice of microphones that you tested. In editing, you will also be expected to work from your channel preset effect chain that you used for your voice and make alterations to it as needed.
You will also need to create some interest for your podcast. You will be creating theme music for your show. And because we are simulating a “real” podcast, you will also be creating a sponsored advertisement spot in your podcast for a real or fictional brand (e.g.: Honey, ZipRecruiter, etc.)
Open a new Logic project and save as MT3-4 - LASTNAME.
Create a secondary ruler to view both time and bars/beats in your project
On the edit window, go to View > Secondary Ruler
Create, whether in Logic in your Notes tab or in a Google Doc, an overview/outline script for your podcast including the following:
Title
Topic
Sponsor
Talking points
Make an outline for about 15 minutes of discussion between you and up to three other people
For each person, you will have to do mic selection, gain staging, editing, etc.
When ready to record, recording will take place in a practice room IN GARAGEBAND ON YOUR LAPTOP
You will be responsible for mic stands, cabling (and wrapping them afterward), and taking care of the interface
Set levels for each person on the interface and route your microphones in GarageBand to separate tracks for each person
When finished, export each track and upload them to Google Drive
At your station, import your tracks from your recording station into the main project in Logic
For your microphone, your preset effects chain from Side Project 2 should be used
Any language that needs to be censored must be taken out in post-production
This does not have to be done during the recording of your podcast
Set levels for your read with your microphone of your choice
Ad read should be between :30 and 1:00
Record and edit as necessary
As needed, podcast dialogue must be censored
Mix and appropriately edit your intro music, podcast dialogue, and ad read
After everything is mixed, on your Stereo Out fader add the Mastering Assistant
AI tool to help with mastering
Submit the completed project to your Google Drive folder.
For this project to be considered complete and receive full credit, it must meet the following minimum criteria:
When applicable, language is censored
Intro theme meets all guidelines in procedure section
Advertisement/Sponsor
30-60 seconds in length
Total length of the recorded podcast is between 15-20 minutes
All mixed, edited, produced, and below clipping
Your voice recording must use your preset vocal chain from Side Project 2
Utilize track stacks to keep your project organized by segment
