ASSIGNMENT: Record 3 beat maps into Logic Pro (one of each subdivision). The subdivision is provided, you will record the written rhythms.
We're going to use the same beat maps from the last section to continue into the world of "keyboard drumming." Your left hand will be playing the rhythm on the piano (which sets us up nicely for finger drumming in Unit 2).
NOTE: We will go over ALL of these instructions in class!
Download the attached Logic template for this project (see below for file link).
Copy this to your personal folder on the computer.
Double-click the file to expand the .zip file to a Logic Project file.
Change the name from 1-4 LASTNAME to your own last name (e.g. 1-4 DATSKO).
Double-click the file to open the project on your computer.
Choose your BPM for the project. The template is set to 75 bpm, but you can change it between 60 and 90bpm if you wish. Change the tempo by clicking the tempo at the top of the screen and typing in the new tempo.
Place your LEFT hand middle finger on C1. If you press this key, you should hear the sound of the bass (also called kick) drum.
Place your RIGHT hand middle finger on the F#1 key. If you press this key, you should hear the sound of a closed hi-hat (sounds like a "tick" when played).
Select the track for the subdivision you are playing by clicking on the track header at the left of the track.
Press the R key on your keyboard to start the recording.
There will be 2 measures of a count-in before you start recording. Use this time to start playing and get your fingers in tempo.
Record the selected pattern 4 times in a row, no stopping in between.
When you finish, press the space bar to stop the recording.
Move the playhead to the beginning (either by dragging it, or by pressing the left arrow on the transport at the top of the page). Listen back to your rhythm.
If you are satisfied with your performance, mute this track by pressing the on-screen M icon in the track header.
If you are not satisfied, delete the recording and try again.
If you are satisfied, repeat steps 7-13 with the other two examples.
When finished with all three, save the file and upload to your SCHOOLOGY (use the upload function, then click on the file button to access the files on your computer).
NOTE: You will need to ARCHIVE your project as a .zip file before you upload.
