The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) runs honor choirs through the state for students who excel in the field of vocal music. There are three levels of honor choirs in Pennsylvania: District, Region, and All-State:

• District Choir is made up of students from PMEA District 11 (all high schools in Bucks and Montgomery counties). Students who are accepted into District Choir have the opportunity to audition for...

• Region Choir is made up of students from PMEA Region VI (all high schools in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties). Students who are accepted into Region Choir have the opportunity to audition for...

• All-State Choir is made up of the top students in the entire state of Pennsylvania.

Admission to each of these choirs is by audition only. Each year we send as many of our best singers to the auditions as we can. Unfortunately, we are restricted by the following rules:

• Only students in grades 10-12 are eligible to audition. 9th graders are not eligible.

• Only students who are members in good standing of their school's music department are eligible to audition. At LMHS, that is defined as students who are enrolled in a curricular choir class.

• We can send a maximum of four students per voice part: 4 sopranos, 4 altos, 4 tenors, and 4 basses. If more than 4 students in a voice part are interested in auditioning we will use evaluation scores and/or pre-auditions to determine who will be allowed to audition.

What are PMEA Honor Choir Festivals?

PMEA Honor Choirs function differently from most choirs you may be familiar with. Instead of rehearsing regularly over a long period of time to prepare for a concert, students are expected to learn the music on their own ahead of time before they attend the "Festival". PMEA Festivals are 3-day events during which the choir will audition for the next level of Honor Choirs, and have two intensive all-day rehearsals followed by a concert on the third day. Festivals are hosted by a high school in the district/region that is running the festival, and students are housed at a hotel. All PMEA Festivals take place between January and April.
