Admission to Chamber Choir is by audition only. Auditions take place each winter for the following school year. Anybody who will attend LMHS in the following school year may audition.
To audition, you must email a recording of yourself performing the required audition material to Mr. Hunnex before the audition deadline. Audition material is typically posted in January, and is due at the end of February. Audition results are usually released by late March.
For audition information, please visit the LMHS Music Department website: http://lmhsmusic.org/auditions
Q: How will the different choral ensembles be reflected on my schedule and transcript?
A: All choral ensembles will appear as "Concert Choir (H)" on your schedule and transcript. There is nothing to indicate whether or not you are in Chamber Choir.
Q: What is the difference between Concert Choir and Chamber Choir?
A: Chamber Choir learns most of the same repertoire as Concert Choir, but prepares additional advanced repertoire as well. Both groups use the same syllabus and complete the same performance assessments, Mighty 100s, etc. In performance, Chamber Choir performs both on their own and as a part of Concert Choir.
Q: What class should I sign up for if I'm auditioning for Chamber Choir?
A: You should sign up for Concert Choir (H). Audition results will be shared with administration and they will ensure you are placed in the correct section.
Q: Is this in addition to Concert Choir, or does it replace it?
A: If you are in Chamber Choir, it will replace Concert Choir in your schedule. Technically, it will still appear as "Concert Choir H" on your official schedule.
Q: How many people will be admitted into Chamber Choir?
A: Every effort will be made to maintain a balanced ensemble, but Chamber Choir should not exceed 25 people, and may have fewer.
Q: Are incoming 9th graders allowed to audition for Chamber Choir?
A: Yes. All students, including incoming 9th graders, are eligible to audition for Chamber Choir.
Q: How will auditions be judged and selections made?
A: Auditions will be judged blind (the judges will not know the identity of the person whose audition they are hearing) by a panel of vocal music teachers. Emphasis will be placed on technical skill (tone quality, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, and musicianship elements such as diction, dynamics, phrasing, and articulation).
