Each student in the Lake Stevens School District has a private library account. Within the Follett Destiny Discover program students are able to remotely browse the NLMS library collection; view the titles and due dates of the books they have checked out; place selected titles in a "favorites" listing; place unavailable books on hold: rate books and write reviews; search educational databases; and access ebooks, audiobooks, and interactive books. Anyone can view the NLMS Destiny Discover system, but students must log in to see their individual account. Students are automatically logged in when they sign into Destiny Library through the NLMS Clever portal.

Audio books and e-books are available for free to all Lake Stevens School District Students through the Sora App. Students log into their Sora account in Clever.
LSSD students can now access our local Sno-Isle Library audio and e-books through the Sora app without a Sno-Isle library card. Students will need to add the Sno-Isle library to their Sora account as this is not done automatically. See the link below for instructions.

All LSSD school libraries work in partnership with the Sno-Isle Library System. By middle school, it is suggested that students have their very own Sno-Isle Library card, which will allow them to use a variety of educational databases that are not available through our school subscriptions and provide opportunities to check out books at any Sno-Isle library center. Each LSSD student has access to a Sno-Isle Student Account. (Information linked below). The Bulldog Library Google Classroom has a variety of research support links which include tips for doing research using Google and our subscription EBSCO database. There are also several tips for making research more efficient and evaluating source credibility so that students are researching smarter, not harder.
6th and 7th grade students will gain a ton of research skills during their time at North Lake. They will learn how to search the web smartly, but will also learn the importance of using educational research databases, like EBSCO, to find the most credible resources possible. All secondary schools in the Lake Stevens School District have a subscription to the EBSCO HOST database systems, which are designed specifically for secondary students and accessible through our school Clever page. Students can search by subject, by type, and by reading level. Students can save and organize their saved resources. Learning the basic functions of the EBSCO databases, and using them for class research projects, will build a strong foundation for more advanced research skills that students will learn in high school and in college.

Here at North Lake we use a wide range of reading assessments to track student reading growth throughout the school year. We recently adopted the SAVVAS program for Language Arts, which will include comprehension assessments. For assessing reading levels and reading growth we use the Renaissance Place STAR assessment online. We also sometimes work within lexile reading levels.
