IFC 2021-22

Independent Filmmaking Class

Independent Filmmaking Class focuses on two essential themes: “What types of narratives do you want to co-create?” and “How flexible are my collaborative skills?” This hands-on filmmaking course lays the foundation for students to become well-rounded filmmakers who show the true independent spirit of creating narratives that are outside of the box and forward-thinking. Creative storytelling is the catalyst for experimentation. Young filmmakers need time and space to build skills in screenwriting, cinematography, and adaptive leadership. Students work with Celtx to learn the art of screenwriting, spend time with peers reflecting on their work, and dedicate their in-person and off-campus time to shooting and editing.

Independent Filmmaking Class - Honors

IFC-H is an advanced-level course that delves into a student's commitment to develop a cohesive and thoughtful final reel. Advanced level students embark on an independent journey to transform personal content into public-facing shorts. Throughout the year, students will refer to a broad spectrum of 20th and 21st-century domestic and international films for reference. Mentorship for IFC-Y1 is expected. Advanced-level students are a part of class screenings and add perspective to first-year students' experience when reflecting on their practice. IFC student-mentors are encouraged to submit to national competitions to support their ability to take a chance at sharing their work domestically.
